About

Infineon offers a wide portfolio of hub controllers supporting USB 480/12/1.5 Mbps, 5 Gbps and 10 Gbps (formerly known as USB 2.0 HS /FS/LS and SuperSpeed USB respectively) with robust backward interoperability with legacy USB speeds. The USB 10 Gbps EZ-USB? HX3PD hub controllers provide advanced USB-PD and battery charging capabilities, featuring up to eight downstream ports for full configurability and flexible design. The versatile EZ-USB? HX3 is a USB-IF compliant USB 5 Gbps hub controller which allows the charging of devices without a host (ghost charge) and enables upstream charging for portable devices with a USB on-the-go (OTG) host (ACA-dock feature). EZ-USB? HX3 also includes automotive-grade products. EZ-USB? HX2LP and HX2VL are highly integrated USB 2.0 480/12/1.5 Mbps 2- or 4-ports hub controllers.

The portfolio offers different combinations of features to address all possible needs for standalone, motherboard, keyboard and monitor hubs, notebook PCs, docking stations, TV, STB, DVR, gaming, home gateways, advanced port replicators, split-PC designs, external personal storage drives, Wi-Fi routers, as well as automotive and industrial applications. In Infineon's hubs, many of its external passive components such as pull-up and pull-down resistors are integrated into the chip, significantly reducing the overall bill of materials (BOM) required to implement a hub design in any application.

EZ-USB? hub controllers portfolio includes the following features:

  • In-system EEPROM programming via USB
  • Battery charging control for BC v1.2 and other charging standards
  • SPI, I2C, GPIO interfaces with boot loader for hub initialization
  • Individual or ganged external power switch control with overvoltage protection (OVP), overcurrent protection (OCP) and LED port indicators (EZ-USB? HX3)
  • Shared link of USB 5 Gbps PHY and USB 2.0 PHY for on-board systems (EZ-USB? HX3)
  • Automotive temperature grade support (EZ-USB? HX3)
  • Market-proven USB PD stack with an ARM? Cortex?-M0 32-bit MCU (EZ-USB? HX3PD)
  • Integrated CC logic and plug orientation correction (EZ-USB? HX3PD)?
  • Dock management controller (DMC) and billboard controller to manage the USB dock system to support the USB billboard and firmware download over USB (EZ-USB? HX3PD)
  • Integrated crypto block for hardware-assisted authentication of firmware image including AES, SHA, CRC, PRNG (EZ-USB? HX3PD)
