Overview

Resonant mode power supplies are a variation of SMPS circuits offering high efficiency, low EMI, and high-power density. Soft switching offers significantly low switching losses by using ZCS (zero-current) and ZVS (zero-voltage) switching schemes. Similarities are shared between both half-bridge and LLC controllers such as utilizing an external capacitor as well as leakage inductance from the main transformer to form a resonant tank to aid its switching operation.

A built-in oscillator allows designers to set the suitable operation frequency range with a resistor. The programmed soft-start function limits both the inrush current and the overshoot in output voltage. Offered system protection like input undervoltage protection and overcurrent protection enable the highest system operation reliability. The benefits offered to design are minimum external components to save the BOM cost and mains undervoltage protection with adjustable hysteresis to simplify the system design.

ICE2HS01G is a high-performance resonant mode controller designed especially for high-efficiency half-bridge LLC converters with synchronous rectification at the secondary side. With its new driving techniques, synchronous rectification can be realized for a half-bridge LLC converter operated with a secondary switching current in both CCM and DCM conditions. No special synchronous rectification controller IC is needed at the secondary side. The controller offers the following key benefits:

  • Novel LLC/SR operation mode and controlled by a primary side controller
