About

Typical BLDC motor applications for automotive include powertrain, chassis, safety, and ADAS systems such as electric power steering, brake booster, MHEV starter generator, active roll control, HVAC compressor, transfer case, pumps and fans. In general, we see a strong growth of BLDC motor applications within the car as more and more premium functions become standard.

Additionally, as cars become more autonomous and connected, safety plays an increasingly crucial role. Here EPS and braking systems, for example, require solutions that are state-of-the-art, compact in design, and with a broad range of monitoring and diagnostic features. Our?MOTIX? gate driver ICs portfolio for BLDC motor control is positioned perfectly here to address the needs of the automotive industry.

Infineon offers different system solutions to meet customer-specific preferences. The extensive portfolio of intelligent motor control ICs is complemented by microcontrollers, sensors, transceivers, voltage regulators, and MOSFETs to simplify the design of end-to-end system solutions.

MOTIX? TLE9180D 3-phase driver ICs provide an advanced safety feature set for high-current motor drives up to 48 V and include three current sense amplifiers (CSA) for accurate current measurement.

MOTIX? TLE9185 for 12 V applications is ISO-ready and incorporates an innovative adaptive MOSFET gate control concept and other advanced monitoring and diagnostic features.

MOTIX? TLE9140EQW is an ISO 26262-compliant (ASIL B) device for 24 V/48 V applications without an integrated CSA, but with divers internal monitoring & diagnostic features in a tiny TSDSO-32 package.

MOTIX? TLE9189 3-phase gate driver IC is developed according to the ISO 26262 ASIL D development flow. The device is Grade 0-qualified and offered in both a TQFP-48 and in a smaller VQFN-48 package. .

Additionally, MOTIX? motor system ICs (SBC) combine a 3-phase driver with a power supply and communication interface such as CAN FD or LIN.

With Infineon¡¯s innovative?MOTIX? gate driver ICs portfolio, designers are well prepared for current and future safety mobility challenges within the automotive segment. We offer a broad product portfolio ranging from ISO 26262-ready classifications to the most stringent ISO 26262-compliant solutions, tailored to specific customer applications, including ASIL B, ASIL C, and ASIL D.

MOTIX? gate driver ICs for BLDC motors are accompanied by an extensive portfolio of documentation such as application notes and design-in guidelines that support our customers in their design activities. In addition, we also offer a broad range of evaluation boards or shields for Arduino to make the evaluation of our products as easy as possible. Further collaterals that we provide include:

  • Diverse tools for configuration (e.g., ConfigurationWizards)
  • Device drivers for selected MOTIX? devices
  • Training videos?
  • Comprehensive support infrastructure?
  • Worldwide partner network for engineering services and software support

Many MOTIX? motor control ICs use a patented concept of adaptive MOSFET gate drive. This multi-stage slew rate control enables EMC tuning via SPI, including adjusting slew rate with independence from dead-time and turn on/off delays. The on-board measurement and self-adaption of external MOSFET switching times allow balancing of power dissipation vs. EMC performance, adjust for MOSFET lot-to-lot variations and reduce the need for end-of-line calibration effort.

Adaptive MOSFET control is an integrated feature of the following MOTIX? gate driver ICs for BLDC motors: TLE9140, TLE9185 and TLE9189.?

MOTIX? TLE9189x products are developed according to the ISO 26262 ASIL D development flow and are addressing the needs of safety relevant application such as?EPS?and?braking. The product family uses a conventional motor control concept via PWM input control and three integrated current sense amplifiers for current ground measurement with a precise configurable reference voltage (3.3/5V). This device will be Grade 0-qualified and offered in both a TQFP-48 and in a smaller VQFN-48 package, which allows for a flexible design.
