Power supplies in the 15 W-65 W segment like adapters and chargers are typically designed in a small form factor. Infineon¡®s reference designs and solutions are developed to demonstrate high performance by meeting various regulatory limits as well as allowing for small-form-factor designs. The solutions are driven, for example, by Infineon¡¯s digital flyback controller XDPS21071, 700 V MOSFET (IPD70R360P7S), synchronous-rectification MOSFET (BSC0805LS), and small-signal-MOSFET (BSL606SN).

Additionally, our solutions support wide universal input voltage ranges since the designs are used worldwide and must conform to different grid AC categories. The layouts supply various output voltages like 5 V/3 A, 9 V/3 A, 12 V/3 A, 15 V/3 A, and 20 V/2.25 A with a peak efficiency above 90%, combined with the lowest standby input power enabled by Infineon¡®s silicon and silicon carbide power MOSFETs and digital controllers.

Industrial SMPS powers a wide range of devices, from industrial automation robots to medical equipment and vending machines. With the expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the adoption of Industry 4.0, the demand for industrial SMPS is on the rise. Industrial switch mode power supplies (SMPS) are mostly operated in outdoor environments without air conditioning or systems without fans. Such operating conditions make reliability and robustness the key requirements for industrial SMPS, especially when it comes to high-temperature operations, outdoor use, line surges, load jumps, short circuits, and more. In addition to quality, a reliable supply and long-term product availability are also some of the key customer concerns. The industrial SMPS life cycle is, in most cases, longer than 10 years, and takes three to five years to ramp up. Hence, customers not only require high-quality products but also need a stable and reliable power supply over the long industrial SMPS life cycle.

Industrial switched mode power supplies (SMPS) in the 250 W-600 W range are usually found in factory applications, such as process control or automation. These applications are currently experiencing trends such as the requirement for higher energy efficiency. Due to the global situation of increased power costs as well as the focus on decarbonization, SMPS systems need to be more efficient than ever before. However, these systems must also balance increased efficiency with the ever-increasing demand for higher power delivery. Infineon can assist you in building a device that strikes this balance. How do we do this? Well, take our 600 V CoolMOS? P7 series as the PFC switch for example. These MOSFETs have extremely low switching and conduction losses, which make switching applications even more efficient, more compact, and cooler. Or our CoolSiC? G6 silicon carbide Schottky diode in the PFC Schottky diode socket. This device has been designed to complement our 600 V and 650 V CoolMOS? 7 families. It provides benefits like system efficiency improvement, system cost, and size savings due to the reduced cooling requirements, and enables higher frequency and increased power density.

600 W-1 kW AC-DC switched mode power supplies are typically used in server SMPS, industrial, and telecom PSUs, or battery chargers. Infineon¡®s solutions for 600 W-1 kW converter systems are designed to provide higher density in order to pack more power into less space, the highest efficiency with high switching frequencies, the numerous advantages delivered by the option to digitally control stages, and enable zero voltage switching (ZVS) to reduce switching losses and stress.

Of special note in this segment is the large number of available evaluation boards for designs ranging from 600 W-850 W. Each board utilizes different Infineon components which provide different advantages so that you can experiment and find the best solution for you. Our EVAL_800W_ZVS_FB_CFD7 evaluation board, for example, demonstrates a very effective way to design the high voltage DC-DC stage of a server or industrial SMPS, fulfilling the highest standard of efficiency and reliability.
