EZ-USB? USB 2.0 hub controllers with low power consumption (82 mA), 28-/48-QFN packages, and multi translator (TT) options

anchor

Overview

EZ-USB? HX2VL is Infineon's family of high-performance, very-low-power USB 2.0 hub controllers available in 2-port and 4-port versions, supporting both single-TT and multi-TT modes. It has integrated upstream and downstream transceivers, a USB serial interface engine (SIE), USB hub control, repeater logic, and transaction translator (TT) logic. This high integration leads to a decrease in the overall bill of materials required for a hub design.

Key Features

  • USB 2.0 compliant (TID# 30000059)
  • Up to four downstream ports
  • 82 mA power x4 downstream ports
  • Highly integrated to reduced BOMs
  • Multi-/single-TT translator
  • 28-/48-QFN package
  • Integrated port indicator control
  • Individual/gang power management
  • FS & LS compatible downstream ports
  • Overcurrent detection
  • VID PID configurable via EEPROM
  • 0¡ãC to 70¡ãC temperature range

About

EZ-USB? HX2VL is a USB 2.0 hub controller IC for industrial and medical applications. It has a 2-/4-port USB hub controller with programmable firmware, compliant with USB 2.0 spec and is backward compatible with FS and LS devices. It has a single transaction translator, low power consumption, and supports bus-powered and self-powered modes. The device is highly integrated, with an internal regulator requiring a single 5 V power supply. It supports individual and ganged mode power management, overcurrent detection, and two port status indicators per downstream port. It is configurable with options for VID and PID, and configurable ports and I/O pins for power switching and reference clock source. EZ-USB? HX2VL is available in 48-pin TQFP and 28-pin QFN packages, with an operating temperature range of 0¡ãC to 70¡ãC.

EZ-PD? HX2VL development kit is a tool to demonstrate the features of HX2VL devices (CY7C65632 and CY7C65634). In the initial phase of the design, this board helps developers understand the chip features and limitations before proceeding with a complete design. The development kit includes support documents related to board hardware, PC application software, and EEPROM configuration data (.iic) files. The 4-port hub development kits are CY4607M (CY7C65642, 48-QFN), CY4607 (CY7C65632, 48-QFN), CY4608 (CY7C65632, 28-QFN), and CY4608M (CY7C65642, 28-QFN).

Infineon EZ-USB? family of hub controllers integrate many passive components that are usually external: elements such as pull-up and pull-down resistors are included on-chip, reducing the overall bill of materials (BOM) required to implement a hub design. Moreover, the availability of support material and reference design kits help designers in the development process significantly reducing the time-to-market. EZ-USB? HX2VL evaluation boards are tools to demonstrate the features of EZ-USB? HX2VL devices.
