Infineon Austria promotes biodiversity with around 6,200 trees and shrubs in Villach

Villach, April 28, 2025 - Infineon Austria's reforestation initiative in cooperation with Arge NATURSCHUTZ and the Villach District Forestry Inspectorate is entering its third round: last week, a total of 2,700 trees and shrubs were planted on an area of 3.4 hectares between Infineon-Stra?e and Bruno-Kreisky-Stra?e to create a biodiverse mixed forest. In total, around 6,200 trees and shrubs have been planted in the region since 2022.

J?rg Eisenschmied, CFO of Infineon Austria: "As a leading company with regional ties, we network with competent partners who support our commitment to nature conservation and biodiversity. One example of this is our cooperation with Arge Naturschutz. With our reforestation campaigns, we create valuable green habitats for people and animals in the long term. I am particularly pleased that Infineon employees are so actively involved in these activities. It shows that sustainability is a living part of our corporate culture."

Native tree species strengthen ecological stability

13 different tree species were used for the reforestation of the area to the east of the Infineon site in Villach. These include deciduous trees such as English oak, wild apple and Norway maple as well as coniferous fir. By planting the trees in sections, they are staggered in groups so that they can later form a final stand of large-crowned, strong trees. The advantage: it allows the vegetation to grow back naturally between reforestations and, in addition to producing valuable round timber, also strengthens ecological diversity.

Infineon employees plant shrubs and build biotopes

Employees can also take part in climate protection activities on a voluntary basis. In the current project, they have planted flowering shrubs such as blackthorn and hawthorn. They provide valuable food and shelter for bees, birds and small mammals. Biotopes for amphibians and insects have also been created with the help of the Infineon team and Arge NATURSCHUTZ. Piles of dead wood have been created, nesting boxes for birds and bats have been installed to provide breeding opportunities and rock piles have been created to improve the habitat of the green lizard, among others. Wood-breeding bumblebees were also considered: insect hotels were built for them in existing dead wood.

A total of 6,200 trees and shrubs were planted

Infineon Austria launched the long-term reforestation initiative three years ago. Since then, around 6,200 trees and shrubs have been planted on a total area of 5.9 hectares. The areas are located along the Treffner Bach with 1.1 hectares, on the southern slope of Oswaldiberg with 1.4 hectares and currently around the Infineon Road with 3.4 hectares.
